New Ad: Del Monte, Spencer - Take a Fruit Break

Office antics abound in the latest from Toronto-based creative agency Blammo for Del Monte Refrigerated Fruit Cups.
Most people want to eat healthier. But most us also believe we don’t have time to eat the recommended amount of fruit - especially during a busy day at the office. The Del Monte “Take a Fruit Break” campaign aims to debunk that myth by pointing out that the time spent taking numerous breaks at work to drink coffee, gossip or go on Facebook - is time we could use to grab a fruit break, if we wanted.

The 30-second TV spot features “Spencer”, the lovable office slacker, and “Jane”, the consummate professional. Throughout the spot, we see Spencer’s hilarious breaks contrasted with Jane’s work grind. Ultimately, Jane finally takes a few minutes to relax and take a break of her own, a fruit break, with a Del Monte Refrigerated Fruit Cup.

The broadcast campaign is supported OOH which continues the office culture theme. The three ads feature simple statements about different types of breaks such as “If your colleagues have time for a coffee break, you have time for a fruit break” or “If your colleagues have time for a gossip break, you have time for a fruit break”.

Del Monte is a division of ConAgra Foods. The campaign is currently running in Calgary and Quebec.

Trolli Keep's Fans Hungry For The Taste Of Delicious Weirdness

25 Sept 2013

Trolli is weirdly awesome, via: Glossy Inc.
Breakthrough multimillion-dollar campaign designed to propel Trolli brand sales and put the candy — and the brand — on the tips of teens’ freaky little tongues.

Ferrara Candy Company and Minneapolis-based creative agency Periscope have launched the new Trolli “Weirdly Awesome” campaign. This is the first national marketing push behind the Trolli brand aimed at garnering sales for all of its chewy candies, including Sour Brite Crawlers—currently the #1 item in the growing gummi category.

Gleaning inspiration from the weird shapes, funky colors and irresistible playfulness of Trolli gummies, the work was created to appeal to teenagers’ absurd sense of fun. “Our products break away from the rest of the pack. We decided that taking a similarly unexpected approach with our creative made perfect sense,” says Jamie Mattikow, Chief Commercial Officer at Ferrara Candy Company.

Being decidedly offbeat also resonated with the creative team. “As we dug into the assignment, the thing that we kept coming back to is that weird is the new currency of cool. And Trolli has the ideal amount of irreverence as a brand to pull off weird in an authentic way,” says Charlie Callahan, Periscope’s executive creative director. “So we decided to celebrate weird, honor awesome and spread ridiculousness.”

The campaign centers on blitzing a plethora of outrageous content across teens’ favorite digital platforms in both paid and earned media. The mix aims to keep teens hungry for ongoing delicious weirdness from the brand. Ferrara Candy Company selected Periscope to handle brand advertising for Trolli in June this year. “Winning business is always sweet, and in this case, it’s both literal and figurative,” said Greg Kurowski, Periscope president and CEO. “The team presented big thinking that will help move the needle for this iconic brand, and we couldn’t have been happier to add them to our roster. Needless to say, we’ve stocked plenty of Trolli products to fuel this weirdly awesome work.”

About Periscope: Periscope is one of the fastest-growing independent creative agencies in the nation, with 495 employees. Based in Minneapolis, with global offices in Hong Kong, Delhi and Toronto, Periscope offers a full spectrum of marketing services to a wide range of acclaimed brands including Bridgestone, Target, Arctic Cat, UnitedHealth Group, Columbia Sportswear, ExxonMobil and more.

The Red Bull Titanic Ad Is Angering The Masses

15 Sept 2013

Red Bull’s latest advertising campaign, implying that those killed on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic could have survived had it carried the energy drink, has prompted complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The animated advert, originally released in Germany at the beginning of this year, has been adapted for a UK audience and prompted around 50 complaints to the ASA for implying that those who died might have survived, citing its claim that Red Bull ’gives you wings’.

The advert features the Captain of the ship ordering a dock yard worker to stop loading a create of Red Bull and replace it with champagne.

On hearing the slogan, the Captain asks “Why on earth would you need wings on a ships?” before the name of the ship is revealed behind the Red Bull crate as he walks away laughing.

The ASA has confirmed that it has received complaints on the campaign for making a joke about the tragedy that cost around 1,500 people their lives, although no investigation has yet begun.
