Jane Fonda Narrates "The Future of Flesh" for Prada

14 Oct 2013

Imagine a future in which our bodies, like our clothing, evolve and change to fit the style of the season. Logan & Sons transports us to this surreal universe in The Future of Flesh, an evocative fashion film written and directed by Luke Gilford, voiced by Jane Fonda, scored by former Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears, and styled entirely by Prada in their Fall/Winter 2013 collection.

Operating in the emotive, visually-striking style that has led to special collaborations with Dom Perignon and David Lynch, Maison Martin Margiela, Anjelica Huston, Patrik Ervell, The Miss America Organization, and The New York Times Magazine, Gilford delivers a mysterious and cinematic world narrated by Jane Fonda and further realized with dreamlike editing and a haunting, richly-textured score.

“A central characteristic of fashion is that it evolves through time. As a culture, we’ve recently begun to think of the body in this way as well,” Gilford explains. “Compare magazine covers over the decades, you’ll see how much hair and physique change with the clothes. Now as body modification accelerates, facial features and bone structure are changing as well. The body is beginning to merge with fashion in very interesting ways. Google Glass, for example, is both a fashion statement and a portal into virtual worlds. I find this sexy as well as strange – a science fiction fantasy becoming a reality. The title itself – The Future of Flesh – is a nod toward this evolution.”

The Future of Flesh continues Gilford’s tradition of using “real people” in lieu of professional models for his projects, a practice that has long set his film and photography apart from his contemporaries. To populate this alternate world, Gilford called upon the talents of a pool of friends and his very own grandmother, who has also appeared in his work for Dom Perignon, V Magazine, GQ Style, and a number of personal projects.

An editorial feature comprising photographs shot by Gilford during production on The Future of Flesh appears in the current issue of Document Journal magazine, on news stands now.

Levi's Presents "Boom Town" Detroit in the 60's wed film

12 Oct 2013

Levi's webfilm looks back at the Detroit of yesterday
Detroit in the 1960s was a hotbed of both musical and cultural clash. Legendary music scenes like Motown and the early Garage Rock movement were literally happening across the street from each other. Set against the social unrest of the time, the music community in Detroit in the mid-1960s was like no other in history.

Boom Town celebrates this diversity by telling the story of the stylistic energies that were born from the Motor City during that very special time. In Boom Town, we embark on a heavily music driven story digging deep into the Detroit scene of the era. In the process of creating this film, we have painstakingly researched thousands of hours of archival footage ranging from rare dance club, performance and concert footage, lifestyle films, rare photo stills as well as wonderful industrial films from the times. We've then woven together exclusive voice-over interviews with original musicians, fans and scene-makers from the 1960s Detroit scene. The voices of personalities like Russ Gibb, the owner of the mythical garage club Grande Ballroom, Motown session guitarist (and producer of Rodgriguez' Sugar Man) album, Dennis Coffey, and legendary concert poster artist, Gary Grimshaw, come together with many other members of the Detroit scene to tell this fascinating story. Told through a series of vignettes, Boom Town is a grooving and stomping film that captures the style and attitude of a small group of musicians that continue to influence the worlds of fashion and music to this day.

Who is Cool Jesse? The Latest Video From Ignited

18 Sept 2013

Meet creative ad agency Ignited’s “coolest” employee – denim get-up and all: Cool Jesse.

No one is really sure what he does in terms of actual work at the LA-based ad agency, but everyone is talking about him. His first day on the job, he showed up an hour late, he may have broken the copy machine (thanks to attempting to make copies of his denim pants), he plays golf on the office put-put course with a denim golf ball, and he ends every sentence with the word “denim.”

Some say he is brilliant. Others are in awe. He’s just that cool.

Burberry Kisses, An Art, Copy & Code Project powered by Google

15 Sept 2013

One hundred and fifty-seven years after its founding, Burberry continues to reinvent its approach to luxury marketing. In this project, we’re working with Burberry to re-imagine how brands can deliver beautiful, emotional experiences across different devices and screens, while reaching a key audience - millennial consumers.

Burberry Kisses lets you send personal messages to loved ones that are sealed with your actual kiss, and can be dressed up in a real Burberry lipstick color. Through the magic of modern browsers and display ad technologies, we’re able to deliver a beautiful experience to millions of people across the web. Burberry Kisses doesn’t look or feel like a traditional ad, but instead, it’s a personal interaction that forges a deeper connection between users and the brand.

The Brief:
Create an emotional connection between the Burberry brand and millennial consumers, who easily tune out traditional fashion and beauty marketing.

Insight:
A kiss is one of the most iconic and personal symbols of human emotion — a means of not only bringing people closer together, but also of forging a deeper connection with the Burberry brand.

The Concept:
A rich experience that lets you send personal messages to loved ones, sealed with a virtual imprint of your real kiss; all while contributing to a broader story of the world’s love.

The song is "Evergreen Love" by Misty Miller.

Nike Tech Fleece: Inside the Innovation

5 Sept 2013

The latest work from Nike Sportswear and long-time collaborator Royale, a digital design company with offices in Los Angeles and Seattle:

Royale’s incredibly detailed CG animation takes us on a fantastic voyage of the design and execution process of a hoodie, from threads being woven on a high-tech, circular-knit loom to its perfect fit on a person’s body. Nike Tech Fleece is a unique thermal fabrication that merges a smooth jersey with a synthetic spacer to create “Warmth Without Weight.”

“Nike wanted a piece that shows how an equal amount of technology goes into building its street wear as does its footwear,” said Brien Holman, ECD/Partner at Royale. “The actual process of creating such a lightweight fleece is what we wanted to focus on. We built a CG loom that would realistically spool hundreds of thousands of threads into one piece of fabric. The Tech Fleece Hoodie is constructed within this loom, giving extra attention to the elements that make it unique.”

The spot is running online at sites such as YouTube and throughout Nike’s media channels, which include its retail store screens, outdoor media and Nike.com.

Royale’s effort supports the launch of the Nike Tech Pack: Tech Fleece debut Fall/Holiday 2013 Collection, which is now available at Nike Sportswear retailers and Nike.com. Tech Fleece evolves the fit, feel and function of Nike’s most iconic sportswear silhouettes—such as hoodies, crewnecks and zip-up sweaters—to the fabric.

bebe, “The Best Part of the Day is the Night” Ad Campaign is Sizzling #be9to5

30 Aug 2013

Fashion brand Bebe’s “The Best Part of the Day is the Night” ads rolling out now nationwide in print and online, add to a high-energy, multiple touchpoint marketing campaign introducing consumers to a new Bebe.

Created by New York City – based advertising agency JWalk (www.jwalkny.com), this newest national creative campaign will be seen in fashion books including Glamour, Elle and Cosmopolitan; online, with high-impact digital homepage roadblocks on sites including Instyle.com. Other components include mobile ads, video ads in taxis – even branded t-shirts, printed with campaign slogans (“good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere”).

The branded rollout follows a month-long, unbranded mystery hash tag teaser campaign, #be9to5, that introduced girls to the idea of the real 9 to 5 – 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – and got people talking about who or what was behind it. Unbranded ads on billboards, bus stops and beer coasters with provocative lines like, “he was a good idea at the time” generated excitement; copy directed viewers to an unbranded microsite, http://www.be9to5.com/. As buzz built around the hashtag, among fashion bloggers and followers, and speculation grew about who or what was behind it, Bebe earned some much needed 9 million impressions, 120 percent above projections, a renewed cultural cachet and a ton of social engagement.

Early stages of the branded phase are showing similar momentum. The campaign has generated over 6 million impressions on Twitter and Instagram. Moreover social engagement is translating into sales increases. One example: over 1,000 t-shirts, carrying the messages "Good Girls Go to Heaven" in white and "The Best Part of the Day Is the Night" in black, sold out in one week -- a 250% increase over typical t-shirt sales of 200 in a week.
