A Dancing Rooster Demonstrates Magic Body Control for Mercedes-Benz

25 Sept 2013

Mercedes-Benz uses a chicken, sorry a rooster to demonstrate the luxury car makers Intelligent Drive Stability Control with the absolutely histarical MAGIC BODY CONTROL commercial. The German ad agency Jung von Matt created the spot.

Unfortunately, a very similar ad was created by Ogilvy & Mather out of Germany (video below) for Fujifilm X-S1 earlier this year. The "Keep a steady head" spot features a chicken doing the same dance.

New VW Ad Meets A-Ha's "Take on Me" 80's Music Video

17 Sept 2013

Volkswagen Feeling Carefree Commercial | VW USA
What would you do if you didn’t have to worry about maintenance on your car? You might just feel like jumping into the classic 80s video “Take on Me,” if you were the main character in our new Volkswagen spot.

“Feeling Carefree” celebrates Volkswagen Carefree Maintenance, which offers no-charge scheduled maintenance on VW cars for the first two years or 24,000 miles. Because of the program, all the protagonist in our ad has to think about is driving the car he loves—and possibly dancing with a woman wearing 80s clothes.

The spot is a combination of stills, animated sequences and live action, just like the original A-Ha video, which broke new ground when it launched in 1985, winning six MTV Video Music Awards.

The spot was created using the same rotoscoping method as the original video—they filmed the actors and the cars and then animated the results. This made for a different kind of shoot. Because we didn't have to worry about lighting and sound, we could simply shoot until we got the right angles.

The track is the original music from A-Ha. The ad was intended to pay homage to “Take on Me,” but isn't meant as a sequel or recreation; for example, the characters aren't intended to be the "Take on Me" actors.

“Feeling Carefree” was directed by David Shane, who did our recent “Johnny Conquest spots” and notable work such as Bud Light's “Swear Jar.”

New Volkswagen Ads Introduce Johnny Conquest, The Organic Bag Boy & The Fake Co-Worker

10 Sept 2013

A new VW ad campaign that’s a bit of a departure from the typical Volkswagen ads: A series of ads featuring a character named Johnny Conquest, whose only mission is showing people that they deserve a better car.

For these ads, Deutsch LA tasked to find ways to show multiple features and accolades in one spot, as opposed to the single feature often shown in VW commercials. Enter Johnny, who jumps into people’s lives to give them unsolicited demonstrations about the virtues of German engineering.

In “Johnny Conquest: Lunch,” Johnny enters a room full of office workers and offers to drive them to lunch at that “place we all like,” and then tells them about the car on the drive. When someone asks him if he works for Volkswagen, he says, “No, I work for the company that we all work for…the place we just left.”

In “Johnny Conquest: Organic,” he carries groceries to a couple’s car and says, “You do not want these in there. Trust me, I’m a bag boy. At the…place I just mentioned.”

Part of Johnny’s charm is that the fibs he tells are barely passable as fibs, as if he’s so enthusiastic with the car that he doesn’t stop to learn the name of the place where he’s supposed to work. In fact, no matter what clothes he has on, he always wears a VW logo.

Despite his last name, a sales term, Johnny is more of an evangelist than a salesperson, and it’s telling that he goes out to people’s jobs and lives instead of meeting people at a dealership. He wants to talk to people in the real world.

The ads are directed by David Shane, known for a lot of very funny commercials, including Bud Light’s “Swear Jar.”

Volvo Trucks - "The Hook" Sacrifices Their President for a PR Stunt

2 Sept 2013

It’s been a long time coming, but today Volvo Trucks is back with ‘The Hook’ – the first in a series of videos to come from Volvo Trucks. This campaign is the continuation of amazing video-stunts from Volvo Trucks, as they once again put their trucks to never-before-seen-tests. Be On is proud to present this teaser video, and soon we will be bringing you more great content from Volvo Trucks.

Imagine a 15 tonne Volvo Truck dangling from its own towing hook, 20 meters above the water in Gothenburg harbor, Sweden. Then imagine standing on top of it.

This is the hook of the most recent video stunt from Volvo Trucks, staring the company President, Claes Nilsson as stuntman. Normally, heads of major companies stay behind their desks but not this one. Volvo Trucks wanted to put their newest construction truck to the ultimate test. And what better way to test the truck’s robustness, than to have the truck hoisted more than 20 meters up in the air and then stand on the front panel?

“Well, I have to admit I had butterflies in my tummy before the event. I’m no mountain-climber and I don’t like heights. But I’d promised to do the stunt so I couldn’t very well back out,” says Claes Nilsson.

This intense feature was shot from a helicopter and everything had been prepared in advance down to the tiniest detail.

“The idea behind the film – called ‘The Hook’ – is that we wanted to show that the truck’s front towing hook is dimensioned to handle far greater stresses than those to which it is normally subjected. It’s all about spotlighting the strength and quality of our construction trucks. And you can’t do that more clearly than by hoisting the 15 tonne truck up into the air via its own towing hook,” explains Claes Nilsson.

#TheHook is the first in a series of new, stunning and daring video stunts that will showcase the performance of Volvo Trucks’ models in ways never seen before. And Volvo Trucks knows how to make stunning stunts.

The viral video fans of the world will be reminded of ‘The Ballerina Stunt’ which was a spectacular viral success last year. In the film, record-holding highliner Faith Dickey battled to cross the line between two trucks driving at full speed.

Claes Nilsson reveals that there is much more to come from Volvo Trucks. He assures that the stunts coming this autumn are not any run-of-the-mill tests. These tests will show things that nobody in the truck world has ever done before! So stay tuned, you don’t want to miss this out.

The MINI Roller Coaster, A NOT so NORMAL campaign for MINI via Anomaly

26 Aug 2013

MINI is much more than just a car. It has its own distinctive personality and generates emotion, passion, and excitement from its loyal owners and fanatics (AKA “MINIACS”). In May 2013, with the help of their AOR Anomaly, MINI Canada launched their nationwide NOT NORMAL campaign that reinforces MINI’s unique and “only MINI can do” attitude.

To amplify the NOT NORMAL campaign and MINI’s undisputed go-kart handling, MINI Canada and Anomaly took directly to the streets. Through vigorous planning and with the help of Toronto-based production company Asymetric, three MINI Cooper S models were completely retrofitted to create a MINI Roller Coaster. The fabrication included the removal of the rear seats and parts of the roof, welding on new roller coaster frames, external speakers, custom roller coaster carts, bright and ambient LEDs, custom paint/decals, and wind blowers, which really showcased the hair-raising experience of driving a MINI even while stopped at traffic lights. With all the structural changes to the car, performance tests to ensure safety were conducted at the MINI Test Facility in collaboration with stunt driver coordinator Philippe Létourneau.

Once the MINI Roller Coaster was street ready, 3 professional drivers ripped through downtown Toronto with 2 riders on each car screaming at the top of their lungs. In addition to the ear piercing screams, a custom music track created by Didier Tovel from SNDWRX blasted through the exterior speaker system. The reaction? Torontonians laughing, smiling, and whipping out their phones and cameras to capture true excitement and the NOT NORMAL execution.

"The stunt was truly an unconventional and NOT NORMAL way to communicate the brand core of excitement.” Said Dave Douglass, Partner/ECD Anomaly. “We hope people take away that driving a MINI is an absolutely thrilling experience and its “corners like it’s on rails” abilities are completely unlike any other car.”

Honda Taps into Millennial Mindset with 'Best Yourself' Civic Campaign Featuring Nick Cannon

14 Aug 2013

'Best Yourself' celebrates diversity and independent millennial spirit. Honda has teamed up with America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon to inspire millennials to “Best Themselves” in a new campaign for the redesigned Civic.

Created in collaboration with the Los Angeles agencies Quantasy and Muse Communications, the long form video and social campaign launched this week, the 60-second TV spot aired during America’s Got Talent this past Sunday.

Honda has also started Project Drive-In - America's drive-in theaters are vanishing.

By the end of the year, movie studios will stop distributing 35mm film. The costly $75,000+ switch to digital projection is threatening drive-ins across the country. To help preserve this treasured American icon, Honda has started a national fund for contributions and is donating 5 digital projectors to the cause. Your votes decide where they go. Visit http://ProjectDriveIn.com to help #SaveTheDriveIn.
